Jonathan Joshe, 22, was today named as the victim of Saturday’s train attack that left 11 people hospitalized on board the 6.25pm Doncaster to King’s Cross train.
A Scunthorpe United star was among the victims of the Huntingdon train bloodbath, the team confirmed today.
Jonathan Joshe, 22, was one of 11 people injured when a knifeman launched a frantic eight-minute assault on board the Doncaster to London train at 6.25pm. He was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge after the nine-car train was diverted to Huntingdon just after 7.30pm on Saturday.
After Anthony Williams, 32, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates Court today charged with 10 counts of attempted murder, Joshe’s club confirmed he was among those injured.
A spokesperson said in a statement that the player remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. “Scunthorpe United can confirm that registered player Jonathan Joshet was one of the victims of the shocking attack on a London-bound LNER train on Saturday night,” the club said in a statement.
“We can confirm that Jonathan remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the attack. As the investigation is ongoing, we are unable to provide any further information at this time.”
“The whole club, including the board, management, team-mates and all of the staff behind the scenes, wish Jonathan a full recovery, and our prayers go out to all the victims on board the train.”
Joshe was announced as a Sunthorpe player in September after signing on “non-contractual terms”. He was “at the club throughout pre-season and the opening month of the season, and also played in some of United’s warm-up games”.
In a statement released at the time, Scunthorpe said: “Most recently at Corinthian Casuals, Joshe has also signed spells with Spelthorne Sports, Colliers Wood, Walton & Hersham, Chipstead, Kingstonian and Hanworth Villa, but the nature of the deal means that the full-back will cover following the injuries and suspensions of Jean Berejoan, Oli Rhodes and Joe Starbuck. Last season, Joshe won the championship.” He is Corinthians Casuals’ Young Player of the Year. ”
Yesterday, Corinthian Casuals released a statement saying: “Everyone at Corinthian Casuals is shocked and saddened to hear that our former player Jonathan Joshet was one of the victims of the vicious attack on an LNER train last weekend. We have learned through his current club, Scunthorpe United, that Jonathan remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the attack.”
“Jonathan was a regular defender in Moo Maan’s side last season and moved to professional football with Scunthorpe in the summer. All of us at Casuals would like to wish ‘Jono’ a speedy recovery and we wish his father, who was a regular at King George’s, all the best.”
This comes after it emerged that British-born Mr Williams, 32, was seen on CCTV in a barbershop less than 24 hours before his arrest over the Huntingdon train crash on Friday. He was charged with 10 counts of attempted murder after several passengers were taken to hospital on Saturday, one of whom is still fighting for his life.
Williams was also charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possessing a knife. In addition, Williams was charged with additional charges of attempted murder and possession of a knife in connection with a separate incident at the DLR network in London in the early hours of Saturday morning. Police said the victim suffered facial injuries when he was attacked with a knife on a DLR train at Pontoon Dock just before 1am.
Tracy Easton, chief prosecutor at CPS Direct, said: “Following a police investigation into the incident on the LNER train from Doncaster to London on Saturday 1 November 2025, the Crown Prosecution Service has decided to charge Anthony Williams with 11 counts of attempted murder, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of possession of a knife.”
“Our out-of-hours prosecution team worked to demonstrate that there was sufficient evidence to take the case to trial and that it was in the public interest to proceed with criminal proceedings. We worked closely with British Transport Police and examined a significant amount of evidence, including CCTV.”
“The charges will continue to be considered as the case progresses. We know the devastating impact of the events on Saturday’s train and the impact this incident has had on the whole country. Our thoughts remain with all those affected.”
