Tottenham achieved a 4-0 victory over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday night despite being reduced to 10 men. The north London side were looking to bounce back after a disappointing performance against Chelsea in the derby on Saturday. Head coach Thomas Frank was without Lukas Bergvall due to concussion protocol, while Mohamed Kudus and Jed Spence missed Monday’s training session at Hotspur Way.
Spence was placed on the bench, but Kudus was left out of the squad. Brennan Johnson broke the deadlock 19 minutes into the game. Xavi Simmons played a perfect pass to the Wales international, who deftly evaded the goalkeeper and scored a beautiful goal from outside the box.
Randal Kolo Muani missed some important chances late in the second half, but recovered in the 51st minute. He chased a long ball from Pedro Polo and managed to intercept it by attempting to clear the goalkeeper.
The Frenchman then skillfully controlled the ball and set up Wilson Oduber for his second goal.
However, the game appeared to be headed in the wrong direction when Johnson was sent off after the referee reviewed a tackle on Marcos López that caught the heel of a Copenhagen player.
Tottenham delivered a double whammy to their opponents. First, Micky van de Ven sprinted from the edge of his own penalty area, kept running and fired a shot past the goalkeeper and into the left post.
Spurs then attacked again as Odbert ran onto the pitch and passed the ball to Romero, who was keeping pace with the Frenchman. The captain then took a shot and his substitute, Joao Parinha, slipped into the goal, avoiding the keeper’s hands.
There was still time to earn a penalty after Academy striker Dane Scarlett made an impressive run into the box before tripping. Richarlison’s penalty hit the crossbar and did not cross the goal line as his header had moments earlier.
The following is the evaluation of Spurs players when they won the Champions League…
Guglielmo Vicario
He had nothing to do but deal with the cross well and sprint down the pitch to celebrate Van de Ven’s incredible goal. 7.
Pedro Polo
He moved aggressively on the right flank and curled a long ball up, which Kolo Muani met well to set up Odbert’s goal. 7.
Cristian Romero
Spurs were even better with the skipper at the back, and he showed great energy following Odbert and setting up Parinha’s goal. 8.
mickey van de ven
What a goal!
The Dutchman’s play was reminiscent of Son Heung-min, collecting the ball on the edge of the Spurs box from Bentancur’s challenge and sprinting down the pitch before firing a shot past the goalkeeper and into the near post. 9.
Destiny Udogie
He brought balance to the left with his driving runs, occasionally moving inside to allow Odbert to go wide. His presence increased the team’s forward momentum. 7.
Pape Matar Saal
His energy was a huge boost for the Spurs throughout the game, especially when they were down to 10 men. 7.
Rodrigo Bentancur
He pressed from the start and won the ball back, setting up Van de Ven’s goal. He is an essential part of Spurs’ side and they need him to repeat this performance against United. 8.
Xavi Simmons
He made a nice assist with a curling pass into Johnson’s path. He was looking to make things happen, set up Kolo Muani in front of goal, got his second assist of the first half, and should have headed the ball home to the Frenchman for a goal just before half-time.
After receiving a red card, Johnson was replaced by Parinha, who was understandably upset. 8.
brennan johnson
He took the lead with a good run past the keeper and a great finish from wide and outside the box. He set up a chance for a header for Sarr with a run and a cross.
His red card was a harsh one and will mean he will miss the next three games despite his previous stellar performances. 7.
Randall Kolo Muani
We started well and with some great work from Xavi we could have scored two goals before half-time. One missed the target and the other was a header. He showed great skill in setting up Odbert for Spurs’ second goal and showed plenty of quality throughout the game despite two mistakes. 7.
Wilson Odbert
He also cooperated well with Xavi, with both players breaking through the center from the left side. He scored the goal from a pass from Kolo Muani.
He played a key role in most of Spurs’ best moments. 8.
sub
Joan Parinha
He scored an additional point with a finish from Romero’s pass. 7.
Jed Spence
He came on late to replace Udogi and made several runs down the left side. 6.
Richarlison
He hit the crossbar twice, once as a header and once as a penalty, and both times the ball bounced back to the wrong side of the goal line. 6.
Kevin Danso
After replacing Romero, he helped Spurs keep a clean sheet. 6.
Dane Scarlett
He showed plenty of impressive touch and made a notable appearance in the final stages, earning himself a much-needed penalty in front of the South Stand. 7.
