Phil Foden was forced to seek legal advice after a sick troll claimed one of his children had died and another had cancer – wife Rebecca Foden now forced to deal with false claims
Phil Foden was forced to contact a lawyer after a vicious internet troll falsely claimed that one of his children had died and another was battling cancer. The 25-year-old sought legal advice after false stories began circulating on social media platforms.
The Manchester City star’s wife Rebecca Foden has been forced to take matters into her own hands over the trumped-up allegations. Rebecca, 24, and the England international are parents to three children and felt an obligation to respond publicly after receiving so many messages about the fabricated article, the Daily Star reported.
“We are aware of the pages and accounts that are spreading these stories. They are completely false and extremely disgusting. I don’t understand how people can make up things like this about someone, especially children. It’s sickening.”
“Thank God we are all perfectly fine. Thank you for your concern. We are doing everything we can to stop it. If you see a post or page sharing false stories like this, please report it.”

The malicious story started spreading on Facebook, where they falsely claimed that their son Ronnie, 6, had died. Another fabricated article by a troll using the name Man City Fun Lover created a false ‘confession’ about Mr Foden’s daughter True, 4, that ‘my little girl has cancer’.
These fictitious accounts were accompanied by AI-generated images of Foden and Rebecca in tears, and the sheer number of posts caused his name to trend online.
Foden came on as a substitute on Wednesday night as City reached the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. Swansea City initially looked set to surprise Josep Guardiola’s side with Gonzalo Franco taking the lead in the 12th minute.
However, Manchester City equalized by the interval thanks to Jeremy Doku. Omar Marmouche and Ryan Cherki also scored goals in the second half, sealing their deal with City. They will now face Brentford in the quarter-finals, with the game scheduled for December.
Foden has made 11 appearances for City this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists. Like fellow big names Jack Grealish and Jude Bellingham, Thomas Tuchel missed out on selecting England’s latest squad for October’s international match against Wales and Latvia, as he opted to stick with players who had performed well in the previous month.
