Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior apologized on social media after his outburst against Barcelona, while manager Xabi Alonso also spoke out about the winger for the first time.
Xabi Alonso believes his spat with Vinicius Junior is over, despite being excluded from a public apology. The Brazilian winger has been at the center of some serious drama over the past week.
He was furious at being substituted against Barcelona and claimed he needed to leave the club. He has since issued an apology.
“Today I would like to apologize to all Madrid players for my reaction when I was substituted in the Clasico. I would like to apologize once again to my team-mates, the club and the president, just as I have already apologized directly during today’s training,” the player wrote on social media.
“Passion sometimes gets the better of me, because I always want to win and help the team. My competitive nature comes from my love for this club and everything it stands for. I promise to continue to fight every second for Real Madrid, as I have done since day one.”
Notable in his statement was Real Madrid manager Alonso, but the Spanish manager insisted there were no problems between the two. Speaking at a press conference ahead of this weekend’s game against Valencia, he said: “Did Vinicius apologize to me?

“We had a meeting with everyone on Wednesday and Vinicius was impeccable. It was very nice of him to be honest with us. For me, this settles the issue.”
Asked about being left out of the winger’s statement, Alonso replied: “It was a very valuable, very positive statement. He showed integrity and spoke from the heart.”
“What he said was the most important thing and I was very happy. I already said it and I was very proud and the matter was settled on Wednesday itself. We had a good training yesterday and I see Vini doing well and we are all in the same boat and rowing in the same direction.”

“It’s closed. We have a game tomorrow and there will be no retaliation against him. I think the team and everyone, including Vinicius, are focused on what is most important. Everyone wants to be on the pitch. The focus is the same. We want to proceed safely.”
Vinicius has already made an excellent start to the season under new manager Alonso. The Brazilian has made just 10 league appearances so far this season, scoring five goals and providing four assists. The 25-year-old currently has less than two years left on his contract with the Spanish giants.
After playing against Valencia, Real will travel to England to face Liverpool in the Champions League. The game will see Trent Alexander-Arnold return to Anfield for the first time since leaving Real Madrid in the summer.
