Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has praised Marcus Rashford’s performances in training since joining from Manchester United, describing him as “unstoppable”. Rashford joined the Spanish champions last summer on a season-long loan with a permanent transfer option for £26.2m. The forward has made just 13 appearances for Hansi Flick’s side this season and has already scored five goals and provided seven assists.
Rashford himself has expressed his desire to make a permanent move to Barcelona at the end of the season. Sporting director Deco echoed this sentiment, insisting the club is happy with his progress. Szczesny is the latest to praise the England international, offering insight into Rashford’s attitude and performances behind the scenes.
In an interview with Barcelona’s official YouTube channel, the former Arsenal shot-stopper spoke of his admiration for the forward.
“He’s a great player. I love him very much,” he said. “His play is direct, he attacks with speed and has contributed to many goals.
“I think he’s the perfect player. I remember him from when he was 18 or 19 in the Premier League. I knew even then that he was special.”
“He’s scored fewer goals than he should have, because in training and when he’s good, you can’t stop him. If he shows more of that magical right foot in games, he’s going to be very dangerous.”
Following further praise at Aston Villa, Szczesny had glowing comments about Rashford’s training performances.
After joining in the January transfer window, the forward contributed 10 goals in 17 games before injury limited his playing time.
Youth striker Cole Brannigan, who frequently trained with Rashford, confessed in a chat with the Newsletter that the United loanee was “the best player ever” he had observed in terms of the way he handled the ball.
“He was a complete idiot,” he exclaimed. “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
“I was in a group chat with my family and I just said, ‘Marcus Rashford is absolutely ridiculous.’ He’s someone I look up to because Marcus Rashford is at the club.”
