Liverpool will be desperate to get back to winning ways when they host Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, but Arne Slott may be without many of his star players
Up to nine players could miss tonight’s Carabao Cup clash between Liverpool and Crystal Palace. The Reds will be desperate to get back on track after a string of disappointing results.
Liverpool have lost five of their last six games, including defeats to Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Manchester United and Brentford in the Premier League and Galatasaray in the Champions League. Despite spending nearly £450m on signings in the summer, the Merseyside side have failed to impress so far this season.
Arne Slott is feeling the heat and will be hoping things will improve in the cup competition. However, Liverpool’s task is made even more difficult as several key players could miss the game.
Alisson Becker, Jeremy Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni are all ruled out through injury, while Ryan Gravenbirch and Alexander Isaac are doubtful after missing the 3-2 loss to Brentford at the weekend with ankle and groin injuries respectively.
Curtis Jones’ availability is also in question after he requested a second-half substitution at G Tech Community Stadium. On the positive side, Hugo Ekitike will be available for selection, having already served a one-match suspension following his red card in the previous match.

Slott, who is keen to focus on improving his team’s dire situation, said: “Of course we have already played Palace in the Premier League this season, but the result then was not what we wanted.”
“Credit to Palace for that. Their winning goal in that game was scored very late after a difficult first half for us and after we had equalized. So we have to be careful not only about the problems they can cause, but also their ability to keep going until the final whistle.”
Slott admitted that a decision on team selection would be made late, adding: “At the time of writing this note, we have not made a final decision on the team we will use for this game. We will have to train and see if they are available. But whichever players we use, they have to be ready to face a team like Palace.”
As for Palace, Cheikh Doucoure and Caleb Cupolha remain absent. Chadi Riyad will also be absent, but is expected to return to training soon after an extended period of absence due to a knee problem.

In his press conference on Tuesday, Glasner confirmed that both Walter Benitez and Jaydee Camvo will start at Anfield on Wednesday night. The Palace manager also revealed that Chris Richards will be absent from the match-day squad after picking up a minor calf problem against Arsenal at the weekend.
“This is not a gift. They deserve it,” Glassner said. “Jay Dee, I spoke to him and said that I don’t care (about his mistake against Larnaca last week), it’s part of football. He has won a lot of duels and is doing well in training.”
“We trust him, so tomorrow he will start in the back three. The same goes for Walter. He has performed very well in training and deserves to get playing time.”
