Patrice Evra revealed in an Instagram post that her strange habit of wearing only one shoe was a tribute to her mother Juliette. The former Manchester United star spoke about his family and his mother’s tragic health battle with Jeremy Lynch on PlutoTV. The conversation turned to social media, where Evra was asked about his unusual choice not to wear a shoe on his left foot in several posts. In response, he said, “Every time I get asked in the comments, ‘Why is he wearing one shoe?'”

“‘He doesn’t have enough money’ or something. No, in fact, every time I shoot a video, when I’m not wearing my left shoe, I dedicate every video to my mother. Because in 2010, when I was with the French national team, my brother called me and said, ‘Patrice, I want you to come to the hospital.'” He said that his mother had stomach problems.

“I asked my manager and I went to the hospital the next day. When I got to the hallway, everyone was crying. I saw my brother and sister. I said, ‘Wow, this is strange.’

Evra described the shock he felt when he entered his mother’s room and discovered that her mother’s leg had been amputated. “Then I went to the room and my mother was on the bed and I kissed her. Then I sat next to her. It was only when I pulled the blanket off that I realized that my left leg was missing.”

“Of course I went crazy. I almost killed the doctor who cut off my mother’s leg. I’ve never said it before because it’s personal, but it’s pretty funny when you look at it.

“But in reality, every time I shoot a video, I dedicate it to my hero, my mother. It was difficult at first, but she dances with her prosthetic leg.”

Evra also revealed that her mother has Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive brain disease that affects thinking and memory.

Despite this, he emphasized how she “remains positive.”

Evra retired in 2019 after enjoying a glittering, trophy-filled career during his playing days.

The 44-year-old came through CSF Bretigny’s youth system in 1997 before joining Marsala the following year.

The Frenchman then played for Monza, Nice and Monaco before moving to Manchester United in 2006.

Under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson, Evra won five Premier League titles, seven domestic trophies and one Champions League title before moving to Juventus in 2014.

He represented Marseille in 2017 and West Ham in 2018 before finishing his career in 2019.

He also won 81 caps for France.
