Liam Delap, returning from injury, was shown a red card in Chelsea’s fourth-round Carabao Cup win over Wolves. Delap, making his first appearance since August, came on with 30 minutes of normal time remaining, but was immediately given two yellow cards. Chelsea have had players sent off in six of their last nine games in all competitions, and Delap has been suspended for the next game against Tottenham.
Goals from Andrej Santos and Tyrik George gave the Blues a two-goal lead in the early stages, and a goal from Estebao Willian gave Chelsea a comfortable lead going into half-time. However, Wolves bounced back in the second half thanks to goals from Tolu Alokodea and David Moller-Wolf, which caused some anxiety in the closing stages from Chelsea’s point of view. However, they managed to persevere and advance to the quarterfinals.
Here’s how each Chelsea player performed at Molineux…
Chelsea vs Wolves player ratings
Philip Jorgensen – 6
It was a bit of a shaky start, with the goalkeeper rushing out in front of the goal to intercept a cross, but was unable to connect as he had hoped. He couldn’t do anything about any of the goals.
Maro Gusto – 6
He spent a lot of time in the Wolves camp. He didn’t do much, but not being noticed by defenders isn’t necessarily a negative.
Josh Achiampong – 7
In the 36th minute, he intercepted a cross from David Wolfe at his near post. He typically looked calm and confident on the ball.
Toshin Adarabioyo – 5
The first half was easy, but the second half saw more action. It would have been better if he had taken more headers with the ball constantly coming into the box.
Jorel Hato – 6
They made a great recovery in the 29th minute, denying Wolves a legitimate chance. His passing was consistent throughout the game.
Romeo Lavia – 7
His great play led to George’s goal. Facing the ball with his face towards goal, he managed to turn and squeeze the ball into a narrow gap, allowing his side to advance up the pitch.
Andrei Santos – 9
A great finish in the bottom corner was a great start to the night. He made a great contribution to Estevao’s goal, winning the ball with a well-timed press high up the pitch.
Estevao Willian – 8
They had a few shots from the edge of the box early on, but they weren’t a threat. His goal came just before the half-time break, with a delicate dink getting the better of Sa.
Facundo Buonanotte – 5
We played a good game until the start of the second half. The Argentine gave up the ball far too easily, putting Wolves in a difficult situation at a critical moment.
Jamie Gittens – 9
He put in a great performance for Santos’ goal, sending a perfect pass past one player. He also played a key role in George’s goal, setting up his attacking partner perfectly. And the goal is…incredible. he had no rights.
Tilik George – 8
A typical poacher’s finish from close range doubled Chelsea’s lead. His movement was great and his positioning was perfect.
substitute

He suffered a runout in the middle. He passed the ball well as Chelsea looked to win.
