Liverpool lost to Brentford on Saturday night, conceding three goals and suffering a fourth consecutive Premier League defeat, but fortunately that was the only goal they conceded.
Arne Slott called Liverpool’s fourth consecutive Premier League defeat one of the worst of his reign. Kop manager Slott was dissatisfied with the way his team played against Brentford.
He expected some “difficulties” to arise due to the champions’ big-money signings over the summer. But he admitted he didn’t expect to lose four games on the bounce.
“I’ve said it many times, but the team has a certain style against us, but we haven’t found the answer yet. There’s no point in losing 1-0 every time. The team knows the strategy to play against us. Even though we didn’t play well today, we scored two goals, but if we concede too many goals, we won’t be able to compete with them,” he said.

“It’s not just defense, which is what we do with 11 players. And when you create as many chances as we did this summer, that means a lot. It can be a bumpy road, but I never thought we’d lose four games in a row.”
Virgil van Dijk has reflected on his criticism of Roy Keane, admitting he and his team-mates need to look in the mirror.
Manager Keane pointed out the defensive problems of champions Van Dijk in their home defeat to Manchester United last Sunday. After nine consecutive games without conceding, Liverpool captain Van Dijk was left looking for a solution to his poor performance.
He said, “It’s hard to say. The fact that we didn’t concede a goal in nine games in a row! It’s easy to blame specific people, like the backline or set pieces. But in the end, it’s a collective thing. Everyone, including myself, has to look in the mirror. I’m sure we’ll get out of this situation.”
“But we can’t just talk about it. We’ll try to improve. We need each other and we need support. I want the people who celebrated with us last year to be with us even more than they are now. We have quality both offensively and defensively, so we’ll be able to get out of this situation.”
Bees boss Keith Andrews said: “We knew it was going to be a difficult game so we were really, really happy with how we showed our personality and character and resilience within the group.”
“This is the second consecutive time we were disappointed just before half-time when we conceded a goal, but we did a great job in the second half. Beating the Premier League champions is a big result for the club.”
