Jamie Vardy scored his first goal for Cremonese against Atalanta and celebrated in a way that belied his age, but the team failed to pick up three points in Serie A.
Jamie Vardy is approaching his 39th birthday, but he looked as young as ever as he performed a cartwheel and backflip to celebrate his first Serie A goal. The Cremona striker opened his account with a smart finish that ended his four-match wait to find the back of the net.
Vardy gave his team the lead in the 78th minute, converting Alessio Zervin’s rebound. The former Leicester star fired a shot from just outside the six-yard box and stormed away in celebration.
The veteran charged towards the corner flag and performed acrobatics in front of the fans, putting questions about his age to rest. Unfortunately for Vardy, his team was unable to convert the goal into three points as Atalanta equalized through Marco Bresciannini.
Vardy was ecstatic to score against Italy, but disappointed that he couldn’t secure a win against Cremonese. The Lombardy team was promoted last season and is in 10th place in the top flight.
Vardy said after the match: “I’m very happy to have scored my first goal.” “But it’s a bit disappointing not to get the three points because we took the lead late on. Still, this is a step in the right direction.”

“I feel great. I’m taking care of myself, making sure I recover properly and getting close to 100 percent every game. If the coach wants me to play, I’m ready and it’s up to the coach to make that decision. I’m always ready.”
“At the end of the day, football is football. We just have to make sure we give 100 percent every week. It’s 11-on-11 every week and anyone can beat anyone. So as long as we’re working hard, we know we can get points no matter who we play.”
Vardy left Leicester at the end of last season and was an independent until joining Cremonese in August. The veteran forward is still adjusting to his new life near Lake Garda.

Italian lessons are scheduled, mostly to keep the children from mocking him. Vardy knows the basics from his short stint in Lombardy, but he wants to step up a gear soon.
“Good morning, thank you, I only know the basics of numbers, but I’m going to have lessons starting next week,” he said. “So I hope that it will start to spread the language a little bit more.
“I have to learn as much as my kids are learning. I can’t let my kids learn before I do, or they’re going to take the Mickey from me.”
