Tensions between fans and Vitor Pereira escalated as Wolves lost 3-2 to Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday, leaving the club at rock bottom without a win in their opening nine games.
Vitor Pereira was restrained by stewards after confronting an irate Wolves fan on Sunday afternoon. This was after they lost 3-2 at home to Burnley in the Premier League.
Jeanne Fleming opened the scoring for the Clarets just 14 minutes into the game, and they made it into the afternoon shortly after. Jorgen Strand Larsen and Marshal Munetsi ensured the hosts were at half-time at all levels, but the second half was disastrous for Wolves.
The team looked like they could take at least one point from this matchup, but Lyle Foster had other plans. Late in stoppage time, the centre-forward burst through the Wolves backline to meet Hannibal’s precise pass and effortlessly slotted past Sam Johnstone.

Wolves players approached the stands after the full-time whistle in a show of solidarity with the fans, but were met with jeers and chants of “We want Fosun out”, a reference to the Chinese conglomerate that bought the Midlands club for £45m in 2016.
The situation then took a particularly rough turn when Pereira was seen approaching a fan and getting into a lively altercation with a section of the crowd as heavy boos began to ring around him. He was then removed by stewards and members of the team.
Speaking about the fans after the match in an interview with Sky Sports, Pereira said: “I can understand the frustration of the supporters, but if it’s a game where we players didn’t work hard to get a result, I understand, I understand.”
“But that’s the frustration with the result at the end of the game. But the team deserves support.”
“After all, we need their support, because we cannot fight alone. We must fight together, together with them. Unite and together we can achieve our goals.”
It comes amid a disastrous start to Wolves’ 2025/26 Premier League campaign. The club currently sits at the bottom of the league with only two points after the opening nine games, with 0 wins, 2 draws, and 7 losses.
For context, this leaves them two points behind fellow strugglers West Ham in 19th place, three points adrift of Nottingham Forest in 18th place and six points from safety.
Despite losing the first four games of the season, Pereira signed a new three-year contract in September, keeping him at Molineux until 2028. However, there are doubts about his ability to play in one of the most physically demanding leagues in the world at the moment.
Wolves next face Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Wednesday before returning to Premier League action against Fulham on Saturday 1 November. They will then face Chelsea again in the league, while Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest will form the remainder of the next five top-flight fixtures.
