Jadon Sancho breaks embarrassing new record with Aston Villa | Soccer | Sports

Jadon Sancho had an unforgettable afternoon after coming off the bench for Aston Villa’s game against Manchester City. The winger was deemed to meet Manchester United’s requirements and moved to Villa Park on loan in the summer. He would have hoped to change his fortunes with a fruitful spell, but so far that hasn’t happened.

He has made just two Premier League appearances since the start of this season, making his debut on the bench against Sunderland last month. The player made his second appearance against City, replacing the injured Emiliano Buendia in the 29th minute. However, towards the end of the match, he was sent off again due to an embarrassing incident.

Sancho was replaced in the 74th minute by Villa manager Unai Emery, with Evan Guesand playing the rest of the game. He seemed irritated as he trudged off the pitch, and did not seem to shake Gesand’s hand when he was replaced.

He also ignored Emery’s handshake after getting off the pitch, appearing to be unhappy with his bad luck after coming on as a substitute.

Emery questioned Sancho’s poor form earlier this month and was quick to caution: “We have to build the squad again to strengthen our system as much as possible and adapt the new players as quickly as possible.”

Sancho has faced constant questions about his fitness and attitude since joining United in the summer of 2021. Erik ten Hag publicly challenged Sancho’s concentration during his time as Red Devils manager and moved him into an individual training program.

After making a brief cameo as a substitute against Villa in the Europa League match against Bologna, Sancho was branded “frustrating” by Italian pundit Maurizio Compagnoni for his brutal dressing down.

“He is very talented but he was frustrating against Aston Villa and Bologna,” Compagnoni said. “He seems to like you on the pitch.”

In his first interview with Villa after his summer loan move, Sancho said: “As players and especially as a team, we have to achieve big things.

“We have to look at that and hopefully I can help the team achieve those goals. The team comes first, so I’ll be ready whenever the coach needs me.”

“I have individual goals, but my main goal is for the team. Achieving something as a team is much more special than individually. I think every player has individual goals, but the team always comes first.”
