Liverpool manager Arne Slott slams his team over cruel verdict | Soccer | Sports

Arne Slott has branded Liverpool’s fourth successive Premier League defeat as one of the most disappointing aspects of his tenure. Liverpool’s head coach has expressed his dissatisfaction with his team’s performance in the 3-2 away defeat to Brentford. Slott expected some difficulties given the champions’ large transfer fees during the summer.

However, he confessed that he did not expect to suffer four consecutive losses and set his sights on his team. “I’ve said it many times, but the team has a certain style against us, but we haven’t found the answer yet. There’s no point in losing 1-0 every time. The team knows the strategy to play against us. Even though we didn’t play well today, we scored two goals, but if we concede too many goals, we won’t be able to compete with them,” he said.

“It’s not just defense, which is what we do with 11 players. And when you create as many chances as we did this summer, that means a lot. It can be a bumpy road, but I never thought we’d lose four games in a row.”

Captain Virgil van Dijk echoed Roy Keane’s harsh assessment, admitting he and his team-mates needed to scrutinize their performance.

Keane criticized Van Dijk for the champions’ defensive struggles after last Sunday’s home defeat to Manchester United.

After nine games without conceding a goal, Liverpool captain Van Dijk found himself seeking an explanation for their disastrous losing streak.

The player said, “It’s hard to say. The fact that we haven’t conceded in nine games! It’s easy to blame specific people, like the back line or set pieces. But in the end, it’s a collective thing. Everyone, including myself, has to look in the mirror. I’m sure we’ll get out of this situation.”

“But we can’t just talk about it. We’ll try to improve. We need each other and we need support. I want the people who celebrated with us last year to be with us even more than they are now. We have quality both offensively and defensively, so we’ll be able to get out of this situation.”

Brentford manager Keith Andrews added: “We knew it was going to be a difficult game so I’m really, really pleased with the way we showed our personality and character and resilience within the group.”

“This is the second consecutive time we were disappointed just before half-time when we conceded a goal, but we did a great job in the second half. Beating the Premier League champions is a big result for the club.”
