Harry Maguire’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain due to the end of his contract, and although negotiations continue, no new offer has been received from Old Trafford.
Harry Maguire’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain with the centre-half entering the final year of his contract, with no formal offer yet made for the 32-year-old.
United have pulled the trigger on a 12-month extension to Maguire’s six-year, £190,000-a-week contract, which he signed when he moved from Leicester to Old Trafford in 2019. If the club wants the England international to stay, they will have to come up with new terms.
Maguire led home the winner at Anfield on Sunday, ending an almost 10-year wait for victory at Liverpool and becoming a player to watch in the squad. Despite some notable drops in performance during his time with the Red Devils, the defender remains an important figure for the club.
Maguire currently has eight months remaining on his contract and could sign a pre-contract with an overseas club from January 1. The Daily Mail reported that regular talks are continuing between the club and the player, but no decision has yet been made by the leadership.
Formal negotiations have not yet taken place and there are no proposals on the table. Whether Maguire is likely to take a pay cut will depend on the length of the new contract he is offered.

Maguire’s heroics at Anfield are not the first time he has emerged as a late-game trump card. Last season, they defeated Lyon in the Europa League with a goal in the final minute of extra time. In the aftermath of the Liverpool victory, this could be the last time he plays for Liverpool in a United shirt.
He said: “I’m in my final year now, so this could be the last time I play at Anfield for this club. It’s really important to be here and achieve that.”
Maguire was linked with a move to West Ham when Erik ten Hag, who stripped him of his captaincy, was in charge. Back in the summer, United rejected bids from local and international clubs for the defender. Retaining homegrown talent is a top priority for the club.
Maguire is one of only four players over the age of 21, with veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton likely to leave at the end of the season. Premier League teams are only allowed a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players, further increasing the need to keep English talent in Manchester.
