Liverpool bounced back from a miserable four-game losing streak with an impressive win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Arne Slott’s side fell behind early on when Rasmus Christensen’s goal gave the German team a 1-0 lead. However, Hugo Ekitike equalized for the Reds soon after, and goals from Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Kodi Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai sealed a commanding 5-1 victory.
Liverpool will now be desperately trying to get a win against Premier League leaders Arsenal. Slott’s side resume their domestic tour on Saturday night with a trip to Brentford scheduled for this Saturday (8pm). Express Sport looks at Liverpool’s latest injury news and possible return ahead of their trip to west London.
alexander isak
Slott confirmed that Alexander Isak suffered a groin problem during Wednesday’s European game in Germany and was sent off at half-time.
“Hugo had a big chance and he converted it,” he told TNT Sports. “Alex has scored a few goals, unfortunately he hasn’t scored yet, but he had to go off at half-time with a bit of a groin injury, which is a shame.”
“I’ve said it many times before, it’s very difficult to find a balance with a player who’s been out for three months. It’s the same as bringing him out slowly and letting him go slowly.”
“Also, maybe people sometimes argue with me that we can’t play him more often, but that’s no more. Now we played him for the second time in three days and unfortunately he had to go, so let’s hope for the best.
“But when players are out for such a long period of time, it’s not easy to find that balance,” Slott will elaborate in his pre-match press conference against Brentford on Friday.
Return date: TBA
Jeremy Frimpong
In the win over Frankfurt, Jeremy Frimpong was also sent off after suffering a hamstring injury in the first half at Deutsche Bank Park.
The Dutch international was sent off in the 19th minute and replaced by Conor Bradley.
“Jeremy has a hamstring problem. He came back from a hamstring injury a few weeks ago, played one game for the national team, came back to us, but unfortunately after 10 or 15 minutes, I don’t know, he had to go off,” Slott said after the game.
Again, expect more information when Slott speaks to the press tomorrow.
Return date: TBA
ryan graven birch
Ryan Gravenbirch remains an injury doubt for Liverpool after twisting his ankle against Manchester United on Sunday. As a result, the midfielder missed the trip to Germany, but Slott said the Dutchman could be available this weekend.
“As everyone could see, he was limping a bit, so we had to rest him over the weekend. So, unfortunately, he’s not ready to play,” Slott said before the game against Frankfurt.
“It already means we definitely have to change one player and his not being there could mean something for other players as well, because he has very special qualities in our team. “You saw it, for example, when we played against Bournemouth, when we played in the Community Shield, and we’re missing out a little bit on a player who was always guarding the back four.
“Ryan will not be available for the Frankfurt game, but hopefully he will be available at the weekend. But it’s an ankle injury. We have to wait and see. We have to give him some time and see how he is when he comes back from Frankfurt.”
Expected return date: Brentford (A) – Saturday 25th October
Alison Becker
Alisson sustained a hamstring injury in the Champions League game against Galatasaray on September 30th and is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks. Providing an update on the Brazilian’s condition ahead of Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Slott said: “Alison is not part of tomorrow’s squad and he is not going to Brazil for the national team.”
“So he will be absent on Saturday. How long he will be out will also depend on how quickly his recovery progresses. So it is clear that he will not play for Brazil on Saturday and I would be surprised if he played in the first game after the November international break.”
“But from there, things can go a little faster or a little slower. It’s always difficult to say how many days or weeks, but for the upcoming games he will not be part of us or the Brazil team.”
Expected return date: November
Giovanni Leoni
Centre-back Giovanni Leoni suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during his Liverpool debut in the Carabao Cup against Southampton last month and underwent surgery. The player is expected to be out of action until mid-2026.
Return date: Summer 2026
