Arsenal showed their commitment to the Champions League by defeating Atletico Madrid 4-0 on Tuesday night and are considered to be serious favorites to win the competition.
Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher believe Arsenal are among the favorites to go all the way in the Champions League after their impressive 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid.
The Gunners launched a ferocious attack on Tuesday night against former Spanish champions, who have become known for their solid defense under manager Diego Simeone. Goals from Gabriel, Gabriel Martinelli and a quick-fire strike from Victor Gokeres capped off a great night for Arsenal, who extended their lead in last weekend’s Premier League summit.
Arsenal are aiming for their first domestic title in more than 20 years and will be hoping to build on last year’s Champions League semi-final performance, with big things expected of Mikel Arteta’s side after spending £250m on new signings this summer.

Henry played for the Arsenal team that reached the Champions League final in 2006 and told CBS on Tuesday night that his former club are favorites to win the trophy, along with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. Kate Scott then asked Carragher if he was equally optimistic about Arsenal’s chances of success.
“At the moment, I think Arsenal and Bayern are the most impressive teams I’ve seen, looking at their domestic performance and how they’re doing in the Champions League,” Carragher said.
“I’ve said on this program before that I’ve never felt like Arsenal were an underdog club in the Champions League. It might sound obvious because they’ve never won it before, but I always thought there was something off about them. They’ve never really come close.”
“Thierry (Arsenal)’s team was the best team I’ve ever played against in the Premier League, but even that team didn’t come close to winning the Champions League. It wasn’t the team that reached the Champions League final.”
Arsenal have yet to concede a single goal in the Champions League so far this season and are even on track to break the record for the fewest goals conceded in a Premier League season (15), set by Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea in the 2004-05 season.
Carragher referenced his experience with Liverpool and how their defense helped them reach the Champions League final that year, continuing: “Looking at this team now, you can see how strong they are defensively. My Liverpool team that won the Champions League wasn’t a great attacking team, but they were strong defensively.”
“It always gives you a chance, especially in the knockout stages or when you get into a two-way game. If you have a strong defense, you always have a chance.
“Yes, I see Arsenal as one of the four or five teams that can win this competition.”
