Liverpool striker Alexander Isak was substituted during the Reds’ big win in Germany, but Arne Slott has provided an update on the striker’s status
Liverpool manager Arne Slott has revealed that Alexander Isak has been substituted due to a groin injury. The Swedish forward was replaced at half-time by Federico Chiesa as the Reds defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1.
It was another frustrating game for Isak, who was left on the margins for the opening 45 minutes of Liverpool’s victory. The former Newcastle star looked no threat as Slott watched five of his players get on the scoresheet.
Isak’s striker partner Hugo Ekitike opened the scoring and continued to score impressive goals in Liverpool colors. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate each scored headers, while Kodi Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai found the back of the net to deny Liverpool the lead.
Isak has only scored one British goal since arriving at Anfield, but is still not at his best after enduring a tumultuous pre-season. The forward only scored against Southampton in the Carabao Cup and has yet to find the back of the net in the Champions League or Premier League.
Slott expressed his frustration at Isak’s recent setbacks, with Isak struggling to gain fluency with the Reds. The Dutchman added that it was difficult to find balance among the forwards.

Slott explained after the match: “He hurt his groin a little bit so he had to leave the pitch, which was unfortunate.”
“I’ve said it many times, it’s very difficult to find a balance with a player who’s been out for three months. When you slowly get to know him, people argue about playing him longer.
“This is our second match in the last three days and unfortunately he had to leave. We hope for the best, but it’s not easy to find balance with a player who has been out for such a long time.”
However, Ekitike believes he can get even more out of his combination with Isak. “I think it was good,” he said.
“It wasn’t the best first half, but we can improve together. He’s a very good player. Link will definitely come.”
The French forward also spoke about his strong start at Anfield, where he has scored six goals this season. “I feel good and I have very good teammates,” he said.
“I love my life and I hope I can keep going. I’m just going to stay calm and keep doing what I have to do.”
