Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford enjoyed another good game for Barcelona, scoring twice as they beat Olympiakos 6-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Marcus Rashford continued his excellent start as a Barcelona player by scoring twice in the 6-1 win over Olympiakos on Tuesday night. Rashford joined Barça on loan from Manchester United in the summer transfer window and has since established himself in Hansi Flick’s side.
Rashford was frozen out at United, demoted from the first team and forced to train with other unwanted players in the bomb squad by Ruben Amorim. The English striker became the first of the expelled players to escape Old Trafford, fulfilling his dream and joining Barça until the end of the 2025/26 season.
He was very excited to be joining the Catalan giants and although some believed he would be just a reserve player, he has exceeded expectations. However, with his two goals against Olympiakos in the Champions League, he now has an impressive record of five goals and five assists in 12 games in all competitions this season.
With the injured Robert Lewandowski absent and Ferran Torres on the bench, Flick used Rashford as a centre-forward, with Lamine Yamal, Fermin López and Doro Fernandes playing in loan support. While Lopez scored a hat-trick, it was Rashford’s brace that raised eyebrows in Manchester’s red team.

After Olympiakos had a man sent off, Rashford converted Yamal’s penalty to make it 3-1, effectively securing the three points. He then scored twice in quick succession in the 74th and 79th minutes to score the goal.
His two goals mean he has scored or provided an assist in eight of Barcelona’s last nine games, showing he is back to his best. There were glimpses of his undeniable talent during his short loan spell at Aston Villa last season, but his consistency is now evident under Flick.
Despite Amorim’s reservations, the former Germany manager clearly has no problem using Rashford as a number nine. The 27-year-old has mainly played on the left wing in recent years, but feels comfortable in a central position at Barça.
“Marcus can be number nine or number 11,” Flick said recently. “When we think about him, we value the fact that he can play in multiple positions. He has given us a lot of pluses and of course he can also play as a centre-forward.”
That was evidenced on Tuesday night and Rashford will be hoping to maintain his excellent form with a view to securing a permanent move to Barcelona and earning a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup.
