Senne Ramens has been a key player in Manchester United’s last two games, with the goalkeeper making a number of crucial saves in the 2-1 win over Liverpool.
Rio Ferdinand has praised the huge influence Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lamence already has on the team. The former defender suggested his early performances gave the impression of having been at the club for many years.
The Belgian shot-stopper played a key role in United’s 2-1 win against Liverpool on Sunday, making several vital saves to deny the home side. Ramens has scored in the last two matches, both of which ended in back-to-back wins for Ruben Amorim’s side.
The former Sporting CP manager made the bold decision to use Lamence against Sunderland just before the international break, but the 21-year-old retained his place and helped end United’s drought at Anfield.

Lamence has already drawn comparisons to Old Trafford legend Peter Schmeichel, but Amorim playfully dismissed the notion ahead of the trip to Merseyside. However, manager Ferdinand praised the keeper and claimed he was already making a big impact on the defence.
“Speaking about him… I want to say again, when I think back to when I was playing, when did I feel the best? When I didn’t have to look behind me and worry about what the keeper was going to do, where the keeper was,” Ferdinand said on the podcast.
“I didn’t think anything about my goalkeeper. Edwin van der Sar is a great role model, a great goalkeeper, a calming influence and it’s very reassuring to see that at the back.
“I think what people don’t understand, how important a goalie is, is because he sends a vibration to the team and his good vibrations reverberate throughout the team, confidence, security, security, confidence, from there uncertainty and all kinds of swings of not knowing what he’s going to do.
“The fact that they’re looking over there (behind him) means I’m not concentrating on where I am here. If I do that (looking behind him) a lot and worry, then the picture in front of me has changed, so that expression gets a little bit longer.”
The Premier League-winning defender believes the sight of Lamence surrounded by happy team-mates after the match proves what a useful influence he has already made on the backline after just 180 minutes of action.
Ferdinand continued: “There was a lot going on. The uncertainty of the defenders, especially the mistakes made earlier, which led to real uncertainty within the team. As you can see from the way the players celebrated (with Senne Lamence), it’s only his second game.
“It was as if he had been there for a few years and was like, ‘This is what we’re going to do.’ I was very happy to see that unity and celebration was the key and the indicator for me. It may be over the top and forced, but there was an aggression and a feeling of, ‘Let’s go.’ I hope that’s what we’ll see.”
