Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo has become a target for Liverpool as the January transfer window approaches, leaving them in need of a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool are reportedly considering signing Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window amid concerns over Mohamed Salah’s poor form.
Salah has been in poor form this season, scoring just three goals in 11 competitive games so far, and has not scored a non-penalty goal in a league match since the start of August. Liverpool’s losing streak extended to four games after failing to make much of an impact in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United.
The 33-year-old signed a luxurious new two-year contract earlier this year, but a lackluster start to the season has seen Liverpool bosses accelerate succession planning. More than £450m was spent in the summer transfer window to strengthen Arne Slott’s squad, but there is still money available in January if needed.
Semenyo has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season, scoring six goals in eight games and looks set to move to a bigger club. Manchester United and Tottenham inquired about his potential over the summer but fell short of Bournemouth’s £75m offer.

The Ghanaian international signed a new five-year contract with the Cherries in July, but The i reported that the contract included a release clause. Although the figure itself is unknown, his presence, and Bournemouth’s desire to sell the star, has put Liverpool in the race to sign the 25-year-old forward.
The Reds signed Milos Kerkes from Bournemouth in the summer and have strong links with the club thanks to sporting director Richard Hughes, who previously worked on the south coast.
Semenyo is in great form and has the added bonus of not leaving for the African Cup of Nations in January after Ghana failed to qualify. Liverpool will lose Salah to the Egyptian mission, but if his poor form continues, they may be tempted to splash out on big money again.

Bournemouth signed Querkes and centre-backs Ilia Zabarny and Dean Huyssen, who moved to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid respectively, but they know they will struggle to retain Semenho. Spurs and United are also interested, and Semenyo has a long-term contract, so if Liverpool make an offer in January, there could be tough negotiations.
Understandably, manager Andoni Iraola is keen to downplay the possibility of Semenyo leaving the club. Asked about release clauses last week, the Spaniard said: “I don’t know anything about the players’ contracts. I don’t know how much they earn and I don’t want to know.”
“The most important thing for me is that he continues to play well. If he continues to play well, it’s going to make more noise, but if he’s playing well, that’s something we accept. My concern is to keep him where he’s playing well.”
