Liverpool’s pre-match press conference before their match against Eintracht Frankfurt was canceled due to trouble with the team’s plane. The Reds will finally be looking to bounce back from a four-game losing streak when they arrive in Germany for Champions League action on Wednesday night.
Arne Slott’s side lost to Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and Chelsea, before losing 2-1 at home to Manchester United on Sunday. Liverpool’s record in Europe this season is 1 win, 1 loss after defeating Atletico Madrid in the opening game and then losing to Galatasaray in Turkey.
Reds manager Slott was scheduled to address the media on Wednesday night before the Bundesliga game against Frankfurt. However, a statement from the club confirmed that this would not take place due to a problem with the plane.
“The pre-match press conference against Eintracht Frankfurt has been cancelled,” they announced on Twitter.
“Due to technical problems with the aircraft, the team’s scheduled flight to Frankfurt has been delayed, meaning the briefing will no longer be able to take place.”
With Liverpool fully expected to arrive in Germany eventually, the match will be held on Wednesday, with kick-off set for 8pm UK time.
Unless there are further developments following the loss to United, midfielder Ryan Gravenbirch will be the only new injury concern facing Liverpool.
Asked about the injury after Sunday’s game, Slott said, “Ryan twisted his ankle, so I took him out. So, yes, he’s an injury concern. We’ll have to wait and see tomorrow.”
“We have to play again in a few days and we have to play three games in seven days again, as we had to do after the last international break, so we don’t have much time to recover. The good thing is that we have several good midfielders.”
There was good news elsewhere, at least for Liverpool, with midfielder Wataru Endo returning to training. The Japanese representative missed the loss against United due to a hamstring injury, and also missed the international match against Chelsea due to an injury.
Alexis Mac Allister also took part in training despite receiving four stitches to his head in the defeat to United. The pair and Curtis Jones are all options to replace Grabenwerch as Liverpool’s holding midfielder in Germany.
The Reds will then turn their attention to Saturday’s game against Brentford as they look to end their run of three Premier League defeats.
