Nottingham Forest are on the verge of appointing Sean Dyche as their third manager this season. Former Everton and Burnley manager Ange Postecoglou is expected to be sacked less than 20 minutes after the final whistle blew on Saturday in Chelsea’s 3-0 win. Daish’s arrival could be rubber-stamped later today (Monday).
Dyche, a former Forest Academy graduate, emerged as a candidate for the City Ground position during the international break. At the time, owner Evangelos Marinakis was weighing his options, considering whether to fire Postecoglou. An eight-game winless weekend was the final straw for Postecoglou. And now Mr. Dyche is poised to be announced as the 60-year-old’s successor.
Mr. Forrest considered alternatives. Fulham’s Marco Silva has been valued by Marinakis, but the Reds are conscious of staying within financial regulations as they will need to pay compensation to sign him.
Discussions also took place with former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, but no agreement could be reached between the Italian manager and Forest.
This opened the route for Dyche to take the lead. According to Sky Sports, he has “verbally agreed” to take over and final details are still being worked out.
If all goes to plan, Diche will make his managerial debut on Thursday night at home to Porto in the Europa League. They are then scheduled to face Bournemouth on Sunday, and will have to make a quick trip to the south coast to prepare.
Postecoglou’s tenure as Forest manager was abruptly ended after just 39 days. He replaced Nuno Espirito Santo on September 9, and was fired on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds have not tasted victory in any competition since the opening day of the season, when Nuno was still in charge and beat Brentford 3-1. They currently sit 18th in the Premier League, with just five points from their first eight games.
Dyche has been unemployed since leaving Everton in January. Former Reds Ian Woan and Steve Stone have been part of his coaching team for many years and are expected to join the Trent side.
