Manager Jurgen Klopp has hinted that he could return to Liverpool despite his current role at Red Bull. The legendary German manager, who left Liverpool in the summer of 2024 after nine years in charge, transformed the Reds from a mediocre team to one of Europe’s top teams and a perennial title challenger. Klopp, who cited fatigue as a key factor in his sudden departure midway through his final season, took a break from coaching, but returned to football as Red Bull’s global head of football in 2025.
Despite previously saying he would never manage an England team again, Klopp hinted that a return to Liverpool could be on the cards in a new lengthy interview on the Steven Barrett CEO Diary podcast. “I said I would never coach an English team again, but in theory it would be possible if it were Liverpool,” Klopp revealed.
He added, “I don’t know exactly, but I love what I do. I don’t miss coaching. I still coach, but it’s just different. I don’t miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half to three hours, and I don’t miss going to press conferences three times a week.”
“I have 10 or 12 interviews a week, so I don’t miss that. Not really. I don’t miss being in the dressing room. I coached about 1,080 games, so I was in the dressing room very often. I don’t want to die in the dressing room because it stinks. It’s like this.”
“There could be something. I’m 58 years old. I may be old from your point of view, but not so old from another point of view. I could make a decision in a few years…I don’t know.
“Do I have to make a decision today? I’m not going to coach anymore, but thank God I don’t have to. I just have to see what the future holds. Right now I’m working on a project that I really love, and I really love the people I’m working with, the club we’re responsible for and the country it’s in.”
“I love what I’m doing now. In my mind, I think you can only do something really good if you focus 100 percent on it. That’s what I always wanted to do.”
After Klopp left last year, Arne Slott guided Liverpool to their second league title since 1990, with the Reds winning all but four games and finishing 10 points behind Arsenal.
However, the champions are currently struggling, having suffered four consecutive defeats in the league, including three defeats to Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Manchester United.
