The full-time whistle blew in the Blues’ 3-0 win on Saturday, and just a few minutes passed before the Australian’s sacking was confirmed by the club.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager was sacked after just 39 days in charge, with a record of two draws and six defeats in eight games.
Breech was in the City Ground tunnel as the incident unfolded and explained what happened on that dramatic day in the Midlands.

“Despite the fact that there was so much buzz about the possibility of this happening before the game, I still think the timing of this and the way this happened surprised everyone, certainly here in the tunnel and in the interview room as well,” Breech said.
“I was interviewing Morgan Gibbs-White about the game when the news broke, so as soon as the interview was over I found out that Ange Postecoglou had been sacked as Nottingham Forest manager.”
“In that interview, Morgan Gibbs-White said how frustrating it is when coach Ange Postecoglou talks to the players in the locker room and you’re seeing improvement, you’re seeing improvement and progress as a team, and they just can’t get the ball in the back of the net and they’re conceding sloppy goals.”
“Morgan Gibbs-White’s opinion was that he still fully believes, and the team still fully believes, that Ange Postecoglou can turn things around. I think given how the players are feeling, they’re pretty surprised that this news has happened.”
“Immediately after that interview, Gibbs-White was taken back to the home dressing room with the other players and shortly thereafter everyone was taken to the boardroom where there will be a fairly lengthy meeting.

“What we saw here in the tunnel is that before that interview took place, Ange Postecoglou went into the home changing room, spoke to the players and then went to the other side of the tunnel area.
“We saw him come out, Edu was also in the hallway and Ange Postecoglou left towards the parking lot with his bag on his back.
“At that point it seemed like the writing was on the wall, but it wasn’t until a few minutes later that the news was confirmed.
“As far as I know, the players are still meeting in the boardroom and coach Ange Postecoglou’s backroom staff, including Mile Jedinak, who I saw outside earlier, are actually still here.

“As far as we know, Ange Postecoglou has already left the stadium and is certainly no longer in the tunnel area.”
Postecoglou’s tenure was the second shortest in Premier League history after Sam Allardyce’s 30 days at Leeds United in 2023.
