Marc Gehi’s new comments emerge as Chelsea transfer claim ‘rejected’ | Soccer | Sports

We may be currently in the midst of a break in the transfer window, but there is still speculation surrounding the future of current players and potential new signings at Chelsea. In a rare development, the Blues managed to recoup the amount they spent in the final period.

However, Chelsea’s solid but impressive start to the season, sitting seventh in the table ahead of the international break, could see them flourish when the January transfer window opens wide. Chelsea will aim to increase the pressure on former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou on the pitch when they resume play at Nottingham Forest on Saturday lunchtime. Postecoglou has had a disastrous start to his tenure at Forest and could be sacked if Chelsea win at the City Ground.

Jorgensen’s petition was denied

Filip Jorgensen has been under the radar this season, making just two appearances. His first appearance came as a substitute after Robert Sanchez was shown an early red card against Manchester United, but his only start was in the Carabao Cup win over Lincoln, where he looked noticeably inconsistent.

If Jorgensen had had his way in the summer, he would have played for PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Eindhoven were keen to sign the Danish player on loan. Their pursuit of Jorgensen is highlighted in a PSV documentary titled “Ever Change a Winning Team,” which provides a behind-the-scenes look at the events of the summer.

According to PSV fans, talks were held between the two clubs and Jorgensen was keen to make the move permanently, but Chelsea temporarily blocked his move. PSV then turned their attention to alternative goalkeeper options, signing Nick Origi from Sparta Rotterdam on a permanent deal and Matej Kovar from Bayern Leverkusen on loan.

‘Chelsea thought they had Guehi’

The Blues believed they could sign Marc Guehi in time, long before Liverpool showed interest in the Crystal Palace and England centre-back.

That is the view of Stamford Bridge icon Pat Nevin, who believes the club may have wasted an opportunity despite Gehi coming through Chelsea’s youth ranks before departing for Palace and seeing his current contract expire at the end of this season.

Nevin told OLBG: “As far as I understand, Chelsea thought they had Marc Guehy before, but they didn’t get him. I don’t remember how long ago that was. A year and a half ago, it was like that. They thought they got him.”

“If they had played again this time, they would have been up against a very big club and it would have been difficult. Then you have to think about the budget. Chelsea obviously don’t have a lot of money. If you’re going to spend £2 billion, you need to be a little more careful with how you spend that money. If they thought they could get Guehi, I think they definitely would have gone for it.”

Fernandes’ injury upgrade

Enzo Fernandes is expected to be available to play against Forest after suffering an injury scare during his time with Argentina. The midfielder had to cut short his international duty due to a knee problem, but it is not thought to be serious.

In other news, Tosin Adarabioyo and Wesley Fofana are also likely to return after overcoming their respective fitness issues. Moises Caicedo, Joao Pedro and Reece James all stayed at home during the international break to build up their fitness, while Levi Colwill and Liam Delap are long-term absentees. Cole Palmer’s fitness remains uncertain after he was recently forced to miss England’s World Cup qualifiers due to injury issues.
