Manchester United have been warned that they are unlikely to sign Crystal Palace star midfielder Adam Wharton in the January transfer window. Old Trafford bosses are reportedly eyeing the Palace star as a potential replacement for Casemiro, whose contract expires next June.

Wharton has attracted attention for his outstanding performances for Palace over the past two seasons, including helping them win the FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley in May, and is regarded as one of the Premier League’s brightest prospects.

The 21-year-old, who won his first England cap last year, is expected to become one of Europe’s hottest players, with Liverpool and Real Madrid also reportedly interested in signing him. Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Wharton’s future, suggesting that a decision on the England international’s future at Palace is likely to be taken after next summer’s World Cup rather than in the upcoming January transfer window.

“Palace will not negotiate for January,” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “They want Adam Wharton to stay at the club and play a very important role in the story.

“Then in the 2026 summer transfer window, probably after the World Cup, we will know if Wharton is there. He has a chance. Palace will assess the player’s situation, again based on proposals.”

“We have a lot of links with Man Utd. I can confirm that Man Utd rate the players highly, but it’s not just Man Utd. Believe me, several clubs rate this kid highly. He’s really rated highly. He’s considered one of the best talents in his position in England.”

“And certainly there is interest from Man United, but not only that, but nothing has been finalized in terms of a bid or numbers at the moment.

“As you can see, at this stage we have 30 million, 40 million, 50 million, nothing. Palace are very focused on this season with the player and the player is very focused on this season with Palace.”
