A promising soccer player who was aiming for stardom tragically dies in a motorcycle accident. Jose Antonio Barrientos López, known as “Tonito,” is said to have crashed his motorcycle into a telephone pole while riding alone.
The talented player tragically lost his life at just 20 years old. He played for FC Amigos in Honduras’ regional Omoa league, but scouts believed he had the potential to secure a move to South America’s main division.
A club representative said he was “a great friend, player and brother within the team. On Friday night (October 10), after local media reported that he had collided with a telephone pole near the club’s training facility at Turian Rio, witnesses at the scene tried to help the seriously injured footballer, but he succumbed to his injuries before paramedics could arrive.”
Relatives, friends and teammates took to social media platforms to pay tribute to the talented striker, sharing heart-warming messages from supporters. He came from a prestigious family and was widely known throughout the region.
His relatives confirmed that his remains will be displayed at the Tulian Rio Community Center before his burial at 2pm yesterday in Puerto Cortes. “My God Tonito, rest in peace. Please give strength and strength to the whole family in this sad time,” one friend said.
