MANCHESTER UNITED are targeting a sensational £60m move for Crystal Palace midfield sensation Adam Wharton. United manager Ruben Amorim has been closely following his development and is said to be a big fan. Wharton, who has blossomed into one of England’s most promising talents, joined Palace from Blackburn in 2024 for a fee of £18 million.
Since then, he has played a key role in Palace’s golden era under manager Oliver Glasner, helping them win the FA Cup and qualify for Europe. Amorim wants to strengthen his midfield options next summer, with Koby Mainu and Casemiro expected to leave Old Trafford.
He believes Wharton has the technical ability to make a big impact at United. Palace have shown they are willing to part ways with their star players for the right price.
United are confident that an attractive offer of around £60 million will be enough to bring Wharton to Old Trafford next summer.
Wharton, who has one cap for England, was a surprise addition to the squad that reached the Euro 2024 final.
It is reported that he will be allowed to leave Palace this summer if he does not sign a new contract by then. This is despite the fact that he is being held until 2029.
Wharton has had no shortage of glowing praise, with former palace staffer Eberechi Eze also a big fan of his talent.
Eze said earlier this year. “He’s a great player to play with. By playing together at Palace, I’ve gotten used to watching and understanding how he plays.”
“He’s very calm, calm and fun to play with. Even though he’s so young, he’s very mature and very smart.
“When you talk to him, you feel like you’re talking to someone older than you. That’s the type of person he is. He’s a great player.”
Wharton has featured in six of Palace’s seven league games so far this season and was a key player in last season’s FA Cup win.
