Alexander Isaac finally made his move to Liverpool on transfer deadline day, but the £125m man ended up paying a personal price after a rift in his relationship with Eddie Howe.
Alexander Isaac has revealed he has yet to speak to Eddie Howe since his acrimonious exit from Newcastle. Isak, 26, went on strike during the summer transfer window and refused to play for Newcastle after his dream move to Liverpool was rejected.
St James’s Park bosses remained resolute until the final day of the slot and eventually secured a replacement for Nick Waltemaid. Liverpool immediately made a bid worth £125m, the highest in British history, and Newcastle reluctantly accepted, making Isak a member of the Premier League champions and ending the summer’s biggest transfer spree.
The Sweden international was heavily criticized for his behavior and lost the enthusiastic support he once had among Newcastle fans and the respect of many neutrals. Howe also admitted that his relationship with Isak has changed since he went on strike, and it appears the pair have not reconciled six weeks after his move.
“I don’t want to dwell on that right now,” Isak said at a press conference Friday before Sweden’s World Cup qualifier at home against Switzerland. “It’s not in anyone’s interest, not me or Newcastle, so let’s leave it as it is.”
Asked if he had spoken to his former manager, the Anfield star said: “No.”

Isak scored his first goal for Liverpool in the Carabao Cup against Southampton last month, but has yet to hit his stride in the Premier League, where the Reds’ form has plummeted. Liverpool, who lost 1-0 to Galatasaray in the Champions League, have fallen behind Arsenal in the Premier League standings after consecutive defeats.
Isak, who has yet to play a full game for club or county this season, said: “I’m working hard to push myself and play my game.

“Things have been a little tough for us. I believe that if the team improves and things start flowing better, it will go in a good direction for me as well. I’m really happy so far. It’s important for the city where the team has a very good relationship with the fans. It’s been a good situation so far.”
The 26-year-old added: “I’m ready to play 90 minutes if necessary. It’s been a month now. I’ve gotten a lot more playing time and things have calmed down. I feel like I’m in a much better place now than last time.”
Liverpool resume play next Sunday when they face arch-rivals Manchester United. The Reds then face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League before traveling to Brentford.
