Tottenham full-back Jed Spence cheekily criticized Brennan Johnson after England’s 3-0 friendly win over Wales at Wembley Stadium. The Three Lions, coached by Thomas Tuchel, got off to a bright start and finished the game within 20 minutes. Aston Villa pair Morgan Rodgers and Ollie Watkins scored the first two goals within the first 11 minutes.
Rodgers broke the deadlock with a clinical finish and Watkins extended the lead with his predatory instincts at the far post. Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka slotted home England’s third goal, sealing the result as Tuchel’s side prepare for their next World Cup qualifier against Latvia. This could potentially secure him a spot in tournaments in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
From Spurs’ point of view, the night brought contrasting fortunes to their representatives. For Spence, making his first start for England at Wembley Stadium was a memorable occasion.
For Johnson, it was a night he would soon erase from his memory. Unfortunately for the winger, Spence wasn’t prepared to let him go so easily.
After the final whistle, the defender posted a merciless message to his club team-mates while celebrating the win. “I’m so happy to have made my first start for England with such a great win,” he wrote on Instagram.
“But forget about all that emotional stuff for a second. You can’t escape the inevitable. Let’s go for a walk to visit my brother in prison.”
The post featured a series of images of Spence from the game, including one with Johnson during the game. It also included a doctored image of Johnson being walked on a leash.
Spence is well known for his social media antics, which he recently addressed in an interview with TNT Sports pundit Peter Crouch. When shown some of his recent posts that included references to prison, the defender explained that he makes these posts with players he has a personal relationship with.
After the 3-0 win over Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup, Spence shared an image of Damola Ajayi ‘behind the bar’. Ajay is currently on loan at the South Yorkshire club from Spurs and the Tottenham defender admitted he was just joking and did not mean to offend.
It’s been a great season for Spence at Tottenham. During the September international break, the 25-year-old made history as the first Muslim player to represent England.
