Egypt asks Salah not to play in MLS: ‘Nobody will remember him. I don’t remember Messi.’

TNews of Mohamed Salah’s decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the season came as a surprise to football fans. However, the Egyptian star has not revealed where he will go next, and there is much speculation about it.

A number of teams have expressed interest in the Premier League forward, but ‘Mo’ has been given a stern warning about signing with Major League Soccer.

Salah warned about joining MLS

The truth is that signing the 33-year-old forward would be a dream for several franchises, so there would be no shortage of options if he were to become a free agent and release his contract with the Reds.

Major League Soccer is one possible path for Mohamed. American League Commissioner Don Garber has already expressed interest, and although he is not sure whether he will join an MLS team, he would love to meet with him locally.

However, the sporting director of the Egyptian national team, Ibrahim Hassan, warned the football star about this and did not recommend it.

“Personally I hope he stays in Europe,” Hassan told On Sport. “I heard about offers from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and clubs in the Italian league. A move to Major League Soccer? He will be too far from the spotlight. Nobody will remember Salah anymore, just like I don’t remember[Lionel]Messi. I don’t even want to watch him play,” he warned (via the Guardian).

The Argentine signed for Inter Miami in 2023 after a successful spell with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. There he won four titles: League Cup (2023), Supporters’ Shield (2024), Eastern Conference Championship in 2025 and MLS Cup in the same year. Additionally, he became the team’s leading scorer, reaching 900 career goals against Nashville (currently at 901).

However, this does not seem to be enough for Hassan, who hinted at other options: “If no offer comes in from Europe, a move to the Saudi league would be a good option, especially with a big name like Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Meanwhile, Salah has yet to reveal his plans for leaving the team he helped win two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Salah is currently out of Egypt’s friendly camp after sustaining a slight muscle injury in the Champions League match against Galatasaray. He missed Friday’s match against Saudi Arabia in Jeddah, which his team won 4-0. Now, the team will face Spain on Tuesday, March 31st at the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona.

The seven-time African champions will play in Group G alongside Belgium, New Zealand and Iran at the World Cup. They will open the season against Belgium on June 15th at Lumen Field in Seattle. They will play against New Zealand on the 22nd and Iran on the 27th.
