MADRID (Associated Press) — Real Madrid defender Dean Huysen was eliminated from Spain’s World Cup qualifiers due to a muscular injury.
The Spanish Football Federation announced Wednesday that Athletic Bilbao player Aimerique Laporte will be replaced by him.
The federation said Huyssen reported to the team on Monday that he felt uncomfortable with his muscles, and a medical examination conducted Wednesday revealed that he had a muscle injury.
Madrid announced that Huyssen had been diagnosed with damage to the soleus muscle in his left leg.
He played the full game against Villarreal in the Spanish league on Saturday, when Madrid won 3-1.
Spanish manager Luis de la Fuente has already missed several players with injuries. Midfielder Rodri and FW Lamine Yamal.
Spain will welcome Georgia on Saturday, and Bulgaria will be held three days later.
