Vancouver, British Columbia (AP) – Sebastian Bar Halter has two goals and assists, with Rayan Erumi and Thomas Muller each adding goals, and the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 win in the San Jose earthquake on Sunday.
Vancouver (17-6-9) scored 60 points and is tied to San Diego at the top of the Western Conference, two points ahead of Minnesota’s third place. San Jose (10-15-8) had 38 points and dropped out of the playoff position. Dallas, who was eighth, scored 41 points, while Salt Lake and Colorado each scored 40 points.
Erumi, who was homemade at 18, played eight careers in the MLS and got off to a second start, scored in the 39th minute with a volley from a point blank range. Berhalter played a fully placed free kick from the left side to the back post, and Erumi cleaned up the first touch finish.
On the counter attack, Muller ran to a pass played by Ali Ahmed, calming gently on the first touch, slipping inside the left post into the side net, making it 2-0 on the 57th.
Muller, 36, who scored 45 goals in 131 career appearances for the German national team, was acquired on August 6th, with five goals (four starts) in the White Cap, with five goals and two assists.
Belharter blasted a shot that rose from 30 yards and slid through the post to make it 3-0 for the 74th, scoring in two minutes of stoppage time.
Beau Leroux went 3-1 on the 89th and scored a shot from outside the area that eliminated Vancouver’s Giuseppe Bovalina into the net.
Ralph Priso created a goal line block for the header by Josef Martínez in the seven minutes.
Daniel de Sousa Britt of San Jose – known simply as “Daniel” – had six saves.
