LONDON (AP) — William Saliba has signed a long-term contract extension and has become the latest Arsenal player to look to long wait for the team’s major trophies on Tuesday.
The French defender’s deal is scheduled to expire in 2027, and he reportedly extended his stay until 2030.
Saliba, 24, who moved from Saint-Etienne to Arsenal in July 2019, joined Fellows Center Gabriel Magalges and highly rated youth Ethan Nu Wanelli and Miles Lewis Skelly to sign a new contract this year.
They are trying to help gunners win their first major trophy since 2020, running in the Champions League semi-finals in each of their last three campaigns.
“We are very pleased to sign a new contract with the club. We have to continue this way to try and win some trophies,” Saliba said ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League match at home against Greek Champion Olympiacos on Wednesday.
“What we’re missing here is getting a trophy. We have good teams, good staff, good coaches, so we’re getting closer to achieving things.”
“I wasn’t focused on the club from the outside. I want to stay here, but I’m focused on the club,” said Saliba, who was linked to the move towards Real Madrid.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said he is committed to futures to the club as the team’s key players can fulfill their ambitions to win the trophy in North London.
“He (Saliba) deserves his new contract. He has been incredible over the last few years and we are very pleased to keep our team’s spine together,” Arteta said.
“First of all, they belong to this club, share the same ambitions with the club and show that they want to continue their careers here.”
