Lecce, Italy (AP) — The man in Andrea Berotti’s match scored in half of each with Cagliari defeating Lexe 2-1 for the first time in more than a year.
Lecce was at the bottom of the table with one point after four games, already messing up the possibility of relegation. Lecce has had the worst start of the season since 2005.
Lecce started the game well, taking the lead in five minutes when Ricardo Sottil skipped the right behind and headed home for Tiago Gabriel.
However, Berotti was in clinical form on the other side of the club in Sardinia.
An exquisite first touch from a pass from Marco Palacetra’s Michael Forlanshaw gave him a brief advantage, and he squared Berotti to lift the goalkeeper minutes before halftime.
The well-traveled centre forward made a mistake from a penalty spot in the second half, giving visitors all three points, lifting them to fifth place.
