Savanna De Mello of Rayleigh Eville remained hospitalized and was taking the test a day after he collapsed during a match against Seattle’s reign.
DeMelo was photographed by ambulance from the lumen field in Seattle After the medical emergency in the second half Sunday night game. She was being treated at a local hospital.
“We’re lucky to be with our family while we wait for the results of our tests to return,” DeMelo said in a statement released by the team on Monday. “I am very grateful to all of the medical staff for their prompt response. They were with me at every stage. Support from everyone really means the world to me and I’m excited to support the girls this week.”
The scoreless game was cancelled after the incident. The second half of the game will take place on Lumenfield without fans on Tuesday evening, but will air on the league’s streaming platform NWSL+ and television partner Paramount+.
“We are very grateful for the support we have put into Savannah,” Louisville coach Bev Janez said. “This has been a very difficult time for the players and staff. They all care deeply about her and it makes sense to know that the entire NWSL community is behind the SAV. We are grateful to Seattle’s governance and NWSL for their support.”
DeMelo, 27, had previously left the game in March due to dizziness and chest tension, stretching out from the field. She revealed in May that she was dealing with grave illness and hyperthyroidism.
DeMelo was the fourth pick in the 2022 NWSL draft from Southern California. In her three seasons at Louisville, she played 61 games with 14 goals. She was also on the US national team roster for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
