Midfielder Jedin Shaw was traded for Gotham FC for North Carolina’s courage, with a national women’s soccer league record of $1.25 million and an intragri transfer fund of $1.25 million.
Previous records were the $600,000 the Utah Royals received from Kansas City Current for Ally Sentner last month.
Gotham said Thursday that the team is working towards a “renewal and extension agreement” with the show.
“Jedin is one of the world’s top talents with already incredible NWSL and international experience,” Gotham general manager Yael Averbuch West said in a statement released by the team. “We look forward to putting her in a team environment and cannot wait for her to impact her and future clubs.”
The show, who was featured on the US team roster at the Parisiolympics, will join a star-studded Gotham team that includes Esther Gonzalez, the women’s World Cup winner who won the European Championship in the UK this summer, US team midfielder Rose Lovell and defender Jess Carter.
Shaw joined San Diego Wave at 17 in 2022, becoming the youngest player to score in his debut match. She scored 13 goals for Wave, a teenager league record last season.
She was traded for courage in January, but never really found a rhythm with the team.
Shaw made 26 appearances for the United States and scored eight goals. She was named the best young female player of the year in soccer in 2022.
Gotham has won consecutive wins since 7-6-6 in the NWSL standings. The show is available as early as Friday nights when Gotham visits the waves.
