FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Intermiami forward Louis Suarez apologized Thursday for apologizing for his actions following the team’s defeat by the Seattle Sounders in the League Cup final earlier this week.

“Intermiami condemns the altercation that took place after the League Cup finals,” the club wrote. “These actions do not reflect the values of our sport. We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of sportsmanship on and off the pitch.”
Suarez’s history is very colorful and extremely successful.
Along with Suarez, Uruguay ended its 2020 World Cup shortage by reaching the semi-finals in 2010. He delivered Uruguay’s first Copa America title in 2011, his first in 16 years.
He is also known for his infamous, intentional handball in the 2010 World Cup quarterfinals. He won a semi-final spot from Ghana and was banned three times to bite his opponent.
Suarez has been involved in 16 Inter Miami goals (scoring six points and supporting 10 others) during MLS play this season, making him the second in the Messi-only team. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has 19 goals and 10 assists in this year’s MLS match.
“We know there’s still a long season. We’re going to work together to achieve the success this club and all of its fans deserve,” Suarez wrote Thursday to close his statement. “A hug for everyone.”
