SEATTLE (AP) – Ozaze de Rosario scored in the 26th minute, and the Seattle Sounders won the League Cup with Lionel Messi and Intermiami 3-0, 3-0 on Sunday night.
De Rosario scored his fourth goal in League Cup play with a cross from Alex Roldan to the bottom left corner of the net. Roldan scored on a penalty kick in the 84th minute, while Paul Rothrock found the net on the 89th.
By winning the annual tournament featuring major league soccer and La Liga MX clubs, the Sounders said goodbye to the 16th round of the upcoming CONCACAF Champions Cup. Seattle has also become the only MLS team to win all five annual trophies available to clubs in the league, already winning the MLS Cup, Conka Kaff Champions Cup, the US Open Cup and the Supporters Shield.
After Miami was shut out for the first time in a Liesc Cup play, a post-match brawl broke out between teams, appearing to be showing videos posted on social media Miami’s Luis Suarez spits out Sounders staff.
Messi, who led Miami to the League Cup title in 2023, had many scoring opportunities, including one great pass from a great pass from Suarez in the 49th minute. However, Messi was unable to convert and was denied the 34th goal in many League Cup matches.
Meanwhile, the Sounders missed some more biased possibilities. Jesus Ferreira ripped a shot from the left post in the 39th minute, and Rothrock was stopped on the breakaway on the 72nd.
Second half substitute George Minongo drew a foul in the penalty area, leading to a successful spot kick for Roldan.
