LONDON (AP) – Officials scheduled to become VAR for Liverpool Asenal’s match in the Premier League on Sunday were replaced hours before kickoff for making a mistake he made in the same role during the fixture between Chelsea and Fulham on Saturday.
Michael Salisbury was removed from the officials list for a game at Anfield, with John Brooks taking his place.
Salisbury was a VAR who intervened to ask match umpire Rob Jones to go to the pitchside monitor after Fulham midfielder Josh King scored what appeared to be the opening goal 21 minutes after the match against Chelsea. The goal was choked as Philham striker Rodrigo Muniz was deemed to have stepped into Chelsea defender Trevo Charova during his build-up to goal despite minimal contact.
British media reports that the body of English Soccer referees (professional Game Match Official Limited (PGMOL)) has admitted that the decision was false and that the incident did not meet hiber for intervention as a clear and obvious error.
Fulham lost the game 2-0, with manager Marco Silva explaining his decision to rule out the goal as “unbelievable.”
