Rome (AP) – 18-year-old Liverpool Centre Back Giovanni Leoni One of three players was given the first national team call New Italian coach Gennaro Gatuso on friday.
It was also the first name to be named Azzurri Squad.
It is the first time Gatuso has given his team a name since it was taken over by Luciano Spalletti, who was fired in June.
Facing the prospect of not being able to qualify for the third consecutive World Cup, there is no room for qualifiers to Estonia next Friday against Bergamo’s Estonia and Israel three days later.
Italy has three points from two matches. Norway has played four matches, leading Group I with 12 points, while Israel has scored the next point with six points from three matches.
Leoni moved from Palma to Liverpool this month, but has not yet played for the Premier League champions.
Atalanta Forward Gianlunca Scamacca returned to the team after a series of injuries, like Gianluca Mancini of Roma Center, who was ruled out by Spalletti.
Despite shoulder issues, forward Mateo Retegi was included despite recent moves to Saudi Arabia, as was Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonari.
