MONTREAL (AP) — Prince Oss scored on a second penalty kick after assisting in the first half, when CF Montreal defeated Austin FC 3-2 on Saturday night.
The two teenage midfielders joined forces to give Montreal (5-15-8) a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. 19-year-old Hennadii Synchuk scored his first goal with the first assist for 18-year-old Olger Escobar. This was Synchuk’s seventh and 10th appearance, and Escobar’s first start and seventh appearance.
Austin (9-9-8) even pulled in 40 minutes with goal Myrto Uzuni, his fourth goal in his first season in the league. Defenders Mickler Dessler and Diego Rubio have gathered their third assist in the campaign.
Montreal was assisted by defenders Dawid Bugaj and Owusu, giving him a 2-1 lead at halftime when Dante Sealy scored in the three minutes of stoppage time. Seely scored five goals in his first season with Montreal after scoring twice in 38 appearances over four seasons with FC Dallas. It was Bugazi’s second assist and Owusu’s fifth.
Owusu scored the 12th goal for Club High, leading Montreal 3-1 with a 67th minute penalty kick. The penalty kick was awarded after a foul on Desler.
Austin cut it 3-2 in the 77th minute with Owen Wolf’s career-high fourth goal of the season. Uzni hooked up his second assist.
Thomas Gillier finished with four saves for Montreal on his third career start. The 21-year-old was tagged with a yellow card in the 78th minute.
Brad Stuver saved four shots for Austin.
Montreal will improve to 2-7-5 in their first home victory since beating New York City FC in June.
Austin won 1-0 in the two matchups before the series.
Austin will host the San Jose earthquake on Saturday. Montreal travels to play Toronto FC on Saturday.
