Leipzig, Germany (AP) – Leipzig spends most of the fees from Benjamin Sesco Move To Manchester United with his Brazilian alternative Romulo.
Leipzig signed the 23-year-old striker on a five-year contract from Gostepe on Friday, scoring 17 goals in the Turkish League and Cup last season.
German Kicker Magazine reports that Leipzig has paid up to 25 million euros ($29.2 million) in total, with 20 million euros being paid as transfer fees and the rest being paid with potential add-ons.
At 1.93 meters (6 feet, 4 inches), Romuro was slightly shorter than Sesko, leaving for United last week at a rate that could reach 85 million euros ($99 million).
“Romulo combines strong physicality with clean techniques and keen eye for goals,” said Leipzig’s managing director of sports Marcel Schaefer in a statement. “He’s a versatile attack option. He can play as a classic number nine or in more diverse roles.”
Leipzig will begin his season at fourth-level Sandhausen in the German Cup on Saturday, facing Bayern Munich in the opening game of the Bundesliga season on August 22.
