Whissa misses Brentford’s Premier League opener amid interest from other clubs

LONDON (AP) – Brentford striker Yoan Whissa will not be included in the team due to the team’s opening Premier League match against Nottingham Forest amid uncertainty about the future at the London club, Keith Andrews said Thursday.

Wissa left Brentford’s training camp in Portugal in early July and left the team after Newcastle’s bid was rejected and returned to her first team training only last week.

The 28-year-old Congo International was sixth in the Premier League scoring list last season with 19 goals and formed a strong partnership with Brian M Bemo.

Andrews, who took over at Brentford after replacing Thomas Frank in June, said he has decided to rule out Wissa for Sunday’s game.

“It’s been a very confused preseason and the interest in Joa is very clear,” Andrews said.

“As the head coach, I want Yoan to be in the building and be part of the first team and the team. But I see that. But I understand his situation very well. I have a very good relationship with him.

When asked if Wissa is likely to be staying at Brentford, Andrews said, “I don’t know. It’s very difficult to know.

“I know what I want to happen. I want Wissa to be part of the first team team. I don’t know that’s going to end.”
