Arsenal are investigating whether the uncertainty surrounding Vinicius Junior’s future at Real Madrid could create an unexpected opportunity to sign one of the world’s most dangerous forwards.

Although the interest is still provisional and no formal discussions have taken place between the clubs, the possibility of signing Vinicius has reportedly been approved across Arsenal’s hierarchy, according to The Athletic and Sky Sports.

Transferring will be extremely difficult. Vinicius is one of Real Madrid’s biggest stars, commands an elite-level salary and his signing would attract competition from some of the richest clubs in football. However, his contractual position means Madrid will have to make an important decision soon.

The 26-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his contract, which runs until 2023. As extension talks have not yet been agreed, Madrid are likely to lose him for free in the summer of 2027.

Contract impasse opens door for Arsenal

Madrid’s priority is expected to remain signing Vinicius to a new deal, but allowing negotiations to drift would increase pressure to consider a sale.

The Brazil international has made 375 appearances since joining from Flamengo in 2018, scoring 128 goals and providing 100 assists. He has won two Champions League titles and finished second behind Rodri in the 2024 Ballon d’Or voting.

Vinicius was productive in Madrid’s difficult 2025/26 season, scoring 22 goals in all competitions. He then scored four goals for Brazil at the World Cup, as Carlo Ancelotti’s side suffered a surprise exit to the last 16 of the World Cup against Norway.

The Saudi club have previously considered a wide range of offers for the winger. Vinicius remains at Madrid, but Al Ahly are reportedly willing to offer him a five-year contract worth $1 billion.

If Arsenal were to make a move, the club would need to break away from its normal financial structure through both transfer fees and player salaries.

Arteta is considering several attacking options

Vinicius is not the only forward under scrutiny as Arteta changes the shape of his attack. Julian Alvarez, Bradley Barcora and Yan Diomande are also among the players considered.

Arsenal have already signed Christos Tzoris from Club Brugge in a $45 million deal following Leandro Trossard’s move to Besiktas. Gabriel Martinelli’s future is also uncertain, with the Brazilian reportedly open to signing if a suitable offer is made.

A formal signing for Vinicius is not imminent and he could be taken off the market as soon as contract negotiations with Madrid resume. Still, Arsenal’s willingness to respond to inquiries shows how dramatically expectations at the Emirates Stadium have changed.

The English champions are no longer just looking for depth. They are looking to see if a rare signing could bring them a deal that could transform their offense.
