LONDON (AP) – Belgian winger Leandro Trossard will join Besiktas from Arsenal as the first player from the English champions’ title-winning squad to leave the club.
Arsenal said on Tuesday: “We have reached an agreement with Besiktas on a permanent transfer,” he said, without specifying how much the Istanbul club would pay.
Trossard spent three-and-a-half years at Arsenal after joining from Brighton, scoring six goals in the Premier League last season as the Gunners became champions for the first time since 2004.
Besiktas posted a video clip The 31-year-old Trossard, wearing the club’s black and white jersey, is seen celebrating a goal in his signature pose with his hands over his eyes like goggles.
Trossard was in Arsenal’s starting XI for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain in late May and started all six games as Belgium reached the World Cup quarter-finals.
Besiktas begin their European tour next week when they host Midtjylland in the first leg of the Europa League second qualifying round.
The 16-time Turkish champions finished fourth in the league last season and last won the title in 2021.
Besiktas also signed goalkeeper Alexander Nübel from Bayern Munich this month.
