TORONTO (AP) — Toronto FC has acquired midfielder Djordje Mihailovic for $8 million in trade with Colorado Rapids, the team announced Thursday.
If certain performance goals are met, cash player exchanges will include an additional $1 million.
Mihailovic, 26, has signed a three-year contract to keep him in Toronto until 2028 with the 2029 club option. He occupies a designated player’s roster spot.
“When I first joined the league, I can say that Toronto was a great powerhouse and one of the best teams in the MLS. I know the history and possibilities of this club and where I can go,” Mihailovic said in a statement.
During his career, Mikhailovich played for Chicago Fire, CF Montreal and Dutch club as Arkmar in addition to Rapids. He scored 48 career goals with 63 assists.
He scored nine goals this season with seven assists for Colorado.
“We conveyed our vision for the club to move forward. Djordje expressed his excitement to embrace responsibility as the focus of our new project,” said Jason Hernandez, general manager of Toronto. “We know that Djordje is just beginning to enter his prime and will be an important part of our franchise for years to come.”
Mihailovic also played for the US national team, playing in 11 games with three goals.
