WHIPANNEE, N.J. (AP) – Panamanian striker Cecilio Waterman and midfielder Jose Luis Rodriguez had a brief collision during training Friday.
During training for Saturday’s World Cup Group L match against England, Waterman pushed Rodriguez in the chest and the two were separated by team-mates.
“This is a normal situation,” Panama coach Thomas Christiansen said afterward at MetLife Stadium through an interpreter.
“I would have liked to have seen these situations more often during training,” he added. “It means the team is alive. We will give a good effort to be in the first eleven for tomorrow’s game. So if it happens again, it is a good sign that they are alive.”
In the second World Cup, Panama lost and was eliminated. ghana and Croatia. Los Canaleros have not made it past the first round in either of their World Cup appearances.
