VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — There has been little action in Canada; world cup There was a moment in the win over Qatar when goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau was almost persuaded to become more involved in the attack.
On Friday, after Canada’s 6-0 victory the previous day, Crepeau told reporters about the moment he delivered the ball down the field and a red-clad fan in the BC Place crowd yelled, “Shoot!”
“Here the little devil said, ‘Go for it,’ and the little angel said, ‘Pass the ball and go back,'” he laughed. “I heard the crowd and thought, ‘Oh no, I’m not doing it.'”
Crepeau did not see Qatar’s shot on goal against Canada. First victory in World Cup history. Canada is all but certain to advance to the knockout stage with one game remaining, Wednesday’s final group game against Switzerland.
“Max was really important yesterday, but to be honest, he didn’t have much to do,” coach Jesse Marsh said. “I don’t think there has ever been a more dominant performance in the history of the World Cup, and that’s the truth. Our team will take a lot of confidence from this event, and so will Max.”
The match was chaotic, with two red cards reducing Qatar to nine men, and a Canadian midfielder suffering a serious injury. Ismael Kone A tackle from behind by Asim Madibo broke the tibia and fibula in his left leg.
Crepeau was among the teammates who rushed to Kone’s side. He was certainly able to empathize with both the physical and mental pain Kone was experiencing.

The injury ruled the goalkeeper out of the 2022 World Cup, where he was expected to be Milan Borjan’s backup.
After leaving LAFC, Crepeau remained with Major League Soccer’s Portland Timbers. The 32-year-old currently plays for Orlando City.
Immediately after Kone’s injury, Crepeau also consoled 20-year-old defender Luc de Fougerolles.
“Every man lives with certain emotions, and we experienced them in our time,” Crepeau said. “It’s very hard to put into words, but it only takes a moment to say, ‘Hey, you’re not alone. I feel the same way you do, but we have a job to finish for him.'”
