FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Sprinklers malfunctioned at Gillette Stadium during halftime of a game. world cup Iraq vs Norway match on Tuesday.
Sprinklers at the edge of the area in front of the goal erupted with a stream of water for several seconds, and Erling Haaland scored twice to give Norway a 2-1 lead at half-time.
The remaining sprinklers appeared to be working as expected, but everything had to be shut down to prevent further damage from the faulty sprinkler.
When groundskeepers rushed in to address the problem, the grass around the sprinkler head in question appeared discolored. Staff ran around the area with buckets and tools to disperse water to other parts of the field.
By the time the players emerged for the second half, the affected areas of the field appeared to be back to normal.
